What's All The Fuss?

New Inglesina Aptica 2023 – What’s all the fuss?

Before we look into the new Inglesina Aptical, it’s important to first understand some background history about this legendary Italian company.

About Inglesina

We’ve been a big fan of the Inglesina product range since they launched to the UK in 2019. When they first came, we were incredibly impressed with their unique designs, brand philosophy and most importantly – that everything is still made in Italy.

A look inside the factory where people bend sheets to make the chassis

This was super important to us as a business, because products made in the Far East can be of significantly lower quality, made by factories so disconnected from life in the UK that they are unsuitable for our unique lifestyle. We have easy access to town centres and parks, so all super light designs simply don’t last long enough because they’re not durable for this dual purpose.

It also helps us know that when a pram is made, the operators are paid proper living wages thanks to Western worker regulations and safety standards. And from all of this, they started with their brand new Aptica for the UK.

The Original Inglesina Aptica

The Aptica was ahead of its time. Inglesina knew it, we knew it and customers who had visited the store and had demonstrations quickly discovered why this stroller was a serious cut above the rest.

Thanks to its innovative fold, which is super practical for the contemporary parent, collapsing with 1 hand, it was a quick hit. But what we found very interesting was the follow-up features. If you wanted to pick the chassis up, it was lightweight, you didn’t need to bend over. Opening it could be done standing up. The handlebar never touched the ground and was hygienic. When it folded with the seat still on, the fabrics were also far from the floor.

The Original Aptica launched in a gorgeous Beige

Comparing this design to other prams in the UK market, we quickly discovered how absent-minded we had become to prams, which followed the standard fold. Handlebar down and then you pick it up. Even in our demos, it’s the way customers would fold the pram because they were so accustomed to this.

The fold of the chassis was revolutionary because it took into account the requirements of mum. After giving birth, it’s not easy to bend over because of soreness to the core, which is especially amplified by the fact if you had a caesarean. Despite this, the standard pram fold would make you bend down to pick it up or reopen the stroller, which makes literally no sense if you’ve just given birth.

The Inglesina Aptica instead let’s you do all of this from a neutral, standing position – which is so much more comfortable! By doing this from a standing position, you can engage your chest and shoulder muscles, not having to use your core.

The Inglesina Aptica was a game changer and if it was just the chassis, we’d be happy. But the magic really happens with their carrycot. The patented mattress, the Welcome Pad, was designed by a neonatal professor in consideration of the baby’s body requirements.

Featuring raised knees, this is seriously more comfortable on your baby’s hips, whilst simultaneously granting support for the hips and spinal alignment working with the Flat-Head Syndrome prevention circle. An adjustable backrest, which is changed without disturbing your baby, is perfect for little ones with Colic, Reflux or a blocked nose.

The adjustable cylinder raises the knees of your baby, giving additional hip support and assisting with spinal alignment

Underboard ventilation increases air circulation, so when the unit is placed on the Stand Up, it can be used for safe overnight sleeping. With everything made of bamboo – a breathable, hypoallergenic and anti-bacterial material – it is the perfect environment for your newborn baby.

The New 2023 Inglesina Aptica

But enough about that. With their new 2023 model, we were blown away with their changes. Normally when you update a pram, small minute changes are made, because tooling and machinery changes can cost in the hundreds of thousands, if not millions. Usually we see zips and fabrics changed. But as Inglesina is all made in-house, they have full control and the updates we saw were outstanding.

The new chassis was nearly 2 kg lighter, with an all-new rear-suspension system. This new chassis design was less boxy and far more stylish with elegant curves. The handlebar height had been seriously extended to accommodate for significantly taller parents. An improved shopping basket design with a slant and high walls had also been introduced.

They updated the seat unit to be 1 kg lighter, with an easier to adjust backrest and the All-Season Cover. This makes the stroller perfect for summer and winter time by making the necessary adjustments.

They now had a 360 spinning base. And this was a true 360 spinning base, going all the way round, which is brilliant for parents with a 3-door car. A lie flat car seat with increased air circulation and safety.

The new Darwin Recline Car Seat lies flat in the car as well, perfect for long journeys

These changes are so rare to see, it’s unheard of. It was almost like an all new product. We started this by saying how the Inglesina Aptica was ahead of its time. For this new model, you can’t even say that. It’s like comparing a flying car to the one Fred Flintstone drives around in. It’s incredible.

We’re so pleased to be able to work with a company which makes these bold design changes and updates. It’s so refreshing to see new instead of new-colour. Truth be told, it’s my favourite pram.

If you’ve never tried this pram out, we suggest you do. It changes the whole game, breaks all the rules and is the most impressive piece of tech and equipment we’ve found in a long time. For more information on the Inglesina Aptica, you can visit the product page.
